Benjamin Aloysius 'Ben'  Green
It is with heartfelt sadness, that we announce the passing of Benjamin Aloysius Green that occurred at his home in Louisdale on January 1, 2018 at the age of 70 years after a courageous battle with COPD and Heart disease. Born in Halfway Point, NL. on May 17, 1947 he was the son of the late Michael J. and Bridget M. (Careen) Greene. Uncle Ben lived in Toronto and moved to Nova Scotia over 40 years ago where he was a former employee of Booth Fisheries and Richmond Fisheries in Petit de Grat. He was a deckhand, and Second Engineer on the draggers, Anne C. Spencer and the George Kitchener. Up until his retirement in May of 1991. He worked with many fishermen and made lifelong friends, Donald Joshua, the late Freeman Skinner and Anthony J. Samson. He also fished on a SternTrawler on the coast of Canso, Louisbourg and Yarmouth. He also loved to hunt. Uncle Ben had wonderful neighbors whom he cherished and they were always there for him. Bobby and Carol Ann McPhee, Ronnie and Rose Marie Samson. He made lifelong friends in Louisdale and will be dearly missed by George McPhee and Gary and Gerald Boudreau. Left to mourn his loss is his son Michael Joseph Green who resides at the MacDonald Hall Group Home in Inverness; sister's in law, Madge and Veronica; adored nephew, Michael Green (Joann), Truro, their son, Christopher, Whitehorse, Yukon; their daughter Teya who currently resided with Uncle Ben; Special friend, Della and her children, Grace and Thea, Orangeville, ON; his special niece, Coreen MacInnes, St. John’s, NL; several cherished nieces and nephews from NL and all over and several Godchildren. Ben was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his companion Grace (Gaslard); sister,Sarah (Sadie), her husband Ralph Compagnion; brothers, Michael and his wife Josephine, Patrick, Clyde, and Gerald. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held in the Glen Sampson Room in Louisdale on Sunday January 7, 2018 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral Mass will be held in St. Louis Catholic Church in Louisdale on Monday morning, January 8, 2018, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Joe MacKenzie officiating. Burial to take place in Benoit’s Cove in NL at a later date. A reception will be held following the Funeral Mass in St. Louis Parish Hall in Louisdale. Memorial donations can be made to St. Louis Cemetery Fund.
